Wiring Harnesses for Harley-Davidson Lightweights

Extensive research has helped to make these wires and harnesses as authentic to the factory installed wires as possible. Wires are either 16 gage stranded copper with cotton braided-lacquered coverings, or 16 gage, plastic covered, one-color wire. The plastic covered wire began to be used in certain areas in 1959. Covering colors and tracer colors are true to original colors. Lengths have been determined from original samples. The terminals used and the crimp style are duplicates of what the factory used. Correct non-metallic slide on loom and machine woven on looming are used wherever the factory used them. Correct vinyl insulators are used wherever the Harley used them and are not modern heat-shrink tubing.

"Deluxe" wiring sets for 1948-56 models S and ST have certain cables covered with machine woven-on cotton loom. These certain cables were originally covered by Harley this way, and the "Deluxe" sets have them covered this way. A "Deluxe" harness set is a more correct replacement for an accurate restoration.

"Special" wiring sets for 1948-56 models S and ST are the same high quality but differ from the "Deluxe" sets only in that slide-on non metallic loom is used instead of the machine applied woven-on loom. This is done in an effort to provide a quality wiring set at a lower cost. In 1957, Harley stopped using the machine woven-on loom when they began to use only a slide-on loom.

Replacement wiring sets are not "universal" sets, but are made for specific years.

NOTE: THERE ARE ALSO AVAILABLE THE MORE UNIVERSAL FIT ECONOMY WIRING HARNESS SETS, P/N 70322-53 and 70322-55.
